Chris Woolnough. In Loving Memory. 1961 – 2017

Created by Roy 6 years ago
Chris was born on 9 August 1961 at Whittington Hospital in North London to parents Ken and Esther — a Police Constable and a Nurse. Along with his parents, sister and brother he spent his first years growing up in Archway. He went to St. John’s primary school along with his younger siblings in Pemberton Gardens where they lived. Then on to secondary school at St Richard of Chichester in Kentish Town.

He did well at school and was as well thought of by his teachers. After leaving school he started working at the University College London in a department researching into High Energy Particle Physics — he was very proud of that title. He worked there for a few years and then after a career change in security he went on to work for the London Stock Exchange in 1986. He was there at the start of exciting changes in the stock exchange. Trading was changing from open-outcry to electronic screen-based trading. Known as the Big Bang, Chris was involved throughout this deregulation of financial markets. The Stock Exchange went through a number of changes over the coming years – changing to Andersen Consulting then to Accenture and back to the London Stock Exchange. Through each change Chris survived the reorganisations and progressed in his career there.

Chris was an extremely kind and caring family man. He was devoted to his three nieces and nephew. He would do anything for them. In 1997 he combined homes with his sister, her husband and their children to live with him and his Mother. Then in 2005 moved his current home in Essex where his Aunt also moved so she too could live with them after her husband had died of cancer. His brother had moved to Hertfordshire with his wife and two daughters. When Chris wasn't working he would spend his time at home with his family or visiting his brother and nieces.

Chris spent the majority of his time in his last years with his girlfriend. They both loved to travel, eat out and enjoyed going to concerts and the theatre. Probably his favourite band of all time was Rush. But he had a very eclectic taste in music, ranging from obscure artists to chart topping bands.

A true gentleman, Chris was much loved by his family, girlfriend and friends. He will be greatly missed and leaves a huge hole in our lives. The world has lost a very kind, loving and generous man.

Rest in Peace Chris.
